What is a PARROTT?
A VXI PARROTT is a computer headset which contains a high quality noise
canceling microphone used for speech recognition. VXI PARROTT is not just
one kind of headset, it's actually a whole line of products, created to
suit the usability and comfort needs of our customers. One of the most
appealing aspects of our VXI PARROTT headsets is that no matter which
model you choose, as long as it includes the VXI PARROTT Translator or the

What is a VXI PARROT Translator and what
does it do?
A VXI PARROTT Translator makes VXI PARROTT headsets compatible with
any PC, laptop or palmtop soundcard, preventing incompatibility, a leading
cause of voice recognition failure. By detecting the bias and resistance
of the PC and balancing it with the headset's, the VXI PARROTT Translator
allows maximum voice recognition accuracy right out of the box. It also
improves other crucial voice recognition factors:
- Flat frequency response band
- Limiting high frequency output
- High immunity breath pops
- Low distortion at all levels

Do you need to add batteries to the
Adding batteries to the translator will be necessary if your
microphone is not working. Basically, adding batteries will "turn
on" the microphone. This is typically necessary for customers who
have older computers (purchased 2-3 years ago) and for those using laptop

What is the difference between the PARROTT
QD-31 and the QD-35?
The QD-31 is an over-the-ear headset that we no longer manufacture. The
QD-35 is our new over-the-ear headset.
What is the PARROTT 10? PARROTT 20? How do
they differ from the PARROTT 10-3 or the PARROTT ST?
The PARROTT 10 and the PARROTT 20 are both upper halves of the PARROTT
QD-10 and the PARROTT QD-20. The PARROTT 10 and PARROTT 20 have a
"Quick Disconnect" plug and can fit into a PARROTT Connector
Cord (NOTE: if you purchase a PARROTT 10 or a PARROTT 20 please keep in
mind that this is only the top half of a QD headset system.) The VXI
PARRTT 10-3 and VXI PARROTT ST are "Plug & Play" models that
connect directly to your computer's sound card.
Is one VXI PARROTT headset different than
The only differences in the different VXI PARROTT headsets are the
features that the headsets offer. For example, the VXI PARROTT 10-3 covers
one ear (monaural headset), and the VXI PARROTT ST covers two ears
(binaural headset), but they both have the same microphone. Hence, your
voice recognition quality would remain the same using either headset, but
they offer different comfort features. One person might consider the VXI
PARROTT 10-3 enough to suit their needs, while another person may prefer
the VXI PARROTT ST because they enjoy listening to CDs on their computer
and would like a headset that covers both ears. Both headsets are highly
functional for speech recognition.
Why are they more expensive than the
headsets I see in stores?
VXI PARROTT headsets are top of the line speech recognition headsets that
include an extremely high quality noise canceling microphone element. This
microphone element is a necessity for accurate speech recognition
performance. VXI PARROTT headsets are very durable, and can withstand the
rigors of everyday use. We also offer a two-year manufacturers warranty on

What is a VXI PARROTT Bias Box?
A VXI PARROTT Bias Box connects your headset to your computer, similar to
the VXI PARROTT Translator. The Bias Box makes the headset compatible with
most computer sound cards, and it will also improve your dictation, since
it provides the optimum voice output. It operates for a minimum of 1 year
from two AA batteries, and includes a battery test switch. The Parrott
Bias Box was used before the Translator existed. It is a great solution if
you have previously purchased a Parrott headset that was not bundled with
the Translator. If you have a Translator, you do not need a Bias Box.
"My friend told me to buy a VXI
PARROTT 10-3 with a Bias Box. Now that your products include the PARROTT
Translator, do I still need the Bias Box?"
No! The Translator takes the place of the Bias Box
and does all that the Bias Box did, AND MORE! And what's even better
is that Parrott Translators are bundled with the headsets so you do not
need to purchase anything extra. For your situation, you only need to
purchase the "VXI PARROTT 10-3" and you will get exactly what

"What is a computer headset?"
A "computer headset" is, quite simply, a headset that can plug
into your computer. Headsets can be used with computers for a variety of
purposes- from listening to CDs to playing games to full blown speech
recognition. It is important to understand that the term "computer
headset" is very broad. Certain computer headsets might be great for
listening to CDs, but not capable of allowing you to record voice files.
This is due to the fact that computer headsets can have a variety of
features. Some only have a speaker, so you can hear sounds (such as music)
from your computer. Some have a speaker and a microphone, so that your
computer can hear sounds from your computer and the computer can also
"hear" you. Even within the group of computer headsets that have
the same features, there are some that have higher quality components than
For example, VXI's PARROTT series of microphones are available with a
variety of comfort features, such as one ear, two ear, over the ear, etc.,
and they all contain the ability to send information by voice to the
computer, and hear sounds from the computer. VXI PARROTT microphones were
designed specifically for speech recognition so they all contain the same
extremely high quality microphone element. Even though VXI calls PARROTT
"The Speech Recognition Headset", it can be used for many other
computer related purposes such as gaming, Internet telephony, voice
e-mail, and video conferencing.

that is going to give good results must have a high quality noise
