    EHR Scope by EMRConsultant.com

By the year 2014, all physicians are strongly encouraged to partake in the Health Information Technology Reform (HIT).

Currently, only 10% of physicians have implemented an electronic medical record (EMR) in his/her medical practice.

EMRConsultant.com is a free consulting service for physicians to find the best suited Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for his/her medical practice.

In addition to a consulting service, EMRConsultant provides additional services to further simplify the transition into the EMR world.

For instance, we have EHRScope.com. EHR Scope is both a magazine and an online ‘EMR Search Engine.’ The magazine is available both online as a PDF, (at www.ehrscope.com) as well as a print publication.

Each quarterly edition contains a ½ page listing of over 200 different EMRs, as well as commentary on the industry.

More recently we released EHRScope.com, our online EMR Search Engine. We are quite proud of this, as it provides 24/7 access to our 100,000 data points in real time.

Instead of the hundreds of questions asked of physicians when we provide them with individualized consultation, we have narrowed the filters to 14 critical issues.

    Tech Tip

    Disk Space Reserved for Playback

If you dictate lengthy documents using Dragon NaturallySpeaking you may see a pop-up message such as this:

“NaturallySpeaking has reached the maximum amount of speech data that can be saved. You may continue dictating but some speech playback may become unavailable.”

By default, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can maintain up to 40 MB of recorded speech for each document. This is enough to store about 30 minutes of dictation that you can playback.

If you dictate for longer than the disk space reserved for playback the earliest dictation is removed. (First in, first out)
You cannot playback the removed dictation or save it with your text.

In a dictation lasting longer than the default setting you may find paragraphs or entire pages of text that do not have any playback associated with it. This could be an issue for a transcriptionist or anyone who relies on the playback.

    Solution:
You can change the maximum amount of disk space reserved for storing dictation with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

This adjustable setting is found on the Data Tab of the Options dialog box.
Tools > Options > Data > Disk space reserved for playback

If you will be dictating documents that are more than 30 minutes in length, and you want to keep all recorded speech, you will need to increase the disk space reserved for playback.

A minute of recorded dictation can take up to 1.5 MB of disk space.
So, you may want add an additional 15 MB (or more) for every ten minutes that you expect to exceed the default setting. However, you must also consider how much disk space is available on your computer.
